Do's and Don'ts During Evacuation

DO’s and Don’ts for All

Evacuate using stairways only – Do not use the “Elevator / Lifts”.

 Do not “Run” or “Panic”.

 Do not “Push” or “Trip” the person in front of you.

 Do not “Shout” or “Talk” in a loud voice – you may miss an important instruction on the Public Address System.

 Do not “Try to Fight the Emergency” if you are not trained.

 Listen carefully to the “Public Address System”.

 Act as “Instructed”.

 Do not “Hinder the Fire Fighter or the Rescue Teams”.

 “Keep Left while descending” and “Give Way to Fire Fighter or the Rescue Teams” (If required).

 If caught in “Heavy Smoke” – put “Wet handkerchief on the Mouth & take Short Breaths”.

 Do not create a “Stampede” – you may “Injure yourself and others” OR “Even Lose your Own Life”.

 Know the “Evacuation Plan” designed for your building.

 Recognize “Emergency Alarm Sound”.

 When you hear the “Alarm”, “Leave the Area” and go out of the building to the “Assembly Point”.

 Do not “Waste Time” in “Gathering Personal Belongings”. Assume there is a “Fire” when the “Alarm Sounds”.

 Inform “Others” when there is an “Emergency”.

 Remember “Survival Time” may be measured in “Seconds”.

 Remember a “Prompt Response” can “Prevent” a “Small Fire from becoming a Large One.
If “Smoke is Evident” in the “Corridor or Stairwell” of your “Nearest Exit”, use an “Alternate Escape Route”.

 If you must use an “Escape Route where there is Smoke”, “Stay as Low as Possible”.

What if you cannot escape?

 Go to a “Refuge Area” or “Building Top Terrace” or “Room with a Window”. To help “Rescuers Find You”, “Shout for help”, “Wave Something” to “Attract” their “Attention” and “Stay” where they can “See you”.

 If there is a “Working Telephone”, “Call Security / Building Management” and tell them “Exactly where you are”.

 To keep “Smoke Out of Your Room”, stuff the “Cracks Around the Door” and cover the “Air Conditioning Grills”, using “Clothing, Towels, Newspapers”, etc.

 If “Water” is available, “Dampen a cloth”, “Dampen your Eyes” and “Breathe” through the cloth to “Filter Out Smoke and Gases”. “Wet the Door” if you can. Use the “Water Source” if you have, “Fight the Fire” if it enters “Beneath the Closed Door”.

 Do not attempt to “Jump Out of a Window” (unless you think it is safe).

 To avoid “Injury”, try to “Open a Window” before breaking one. Do not “Break Windows” on upper floors unless vital for survival because “Broken Glass” may “Injure” those below. Also, it may “Help the Fire in Spreading to other areas in the Building”.

 “Think before you Act”, keep “Calm” and be “Patient” until “Help Arrives”.

 Do not believe in “Rumors” and do not “Spread Rumors”.

Thank You...!!!
